Abstract Art

Artist’s Statement

The formal aspects of my painting reflect the influence of many European artists (Cezanne, Monet, Van Gogh, Tiepolo…) and my strong ties to American Abstract Expressionism.

While most of my oils and watercolors are abstract, I strive for the connection to my two artistic sides: rational / conceptual and intuitive / tangible. My work is created to dialogue with the viewer — today or many years from now.

As a 21st century artist my intention is twofold: to reflect the history of painting and to mirror our media- filled modern world. I use color to capture the viewer’s attention, drawing them into my artistic world. These colors appear aggressive at first but soon calm down. The paintings are structured harmoniously and are reflective of the balance in nature. The viewer has something discernable to latch on to while the eye moves to discover the interior of the work, filled with light of different intensities. Luminosity, spatial tension and movement are key elements in my painting.

My paintings take on an autobiographical nature with one finished canvas leading to the next.
